Crazy For Shelburne

Crazy quilts became popular during the late 1800's. A variety of irregular pieces of silk, satin, and velvet were used as well as prints, stripes and plaids. To make the crazy quilt, quilters sewed pieces of fabric onto a plain unmarked foundation. In this technique, blocks were patched with various irregular pieces. Fancy stitching and embellishments were commonly used between patches to make the finished quilt elaborate and detailed.
