Randolph

by Williamsburg

The textile collection of The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation is a tremendous resource that helps us understand the daily lives and homes of the 18th- and 19th-century family. Decorative gowns and stylish men's suits show us what the gentry might have worn to the governor's ball, while more utilitarian aprons and petticoats reveal the everyday clothes. Samples range from fine silk damask upholstery to plain, woven window coverings and from exquisite needlework to homespun quilts. Through each of these pieces, we gain a glimpse into the lives of our ancestors.

The Randolph collection gives us a peek into the fabrics from The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation archives, which contain antiques spanning nearly 400 years. Each pattern is faithfully reproduced or adapted from period fabrics. This collection provides a rich array of 18th- and 19th-century textiles imported from England and France, as well as American-made fabrics from the 19th century.

With beautiful designs, enticing colors, and timeless appeal, these fabrics will help quilters create their own piece of history.
